FEATURED ARTIST:
Joseph Tomelleri is recognized by many as one of the finest scientific illustrators of fishes in the world. The first time I saw his work I was amazed by the precision, colors and the "life-like" quality of his work. Joe works with Berol Prismacolor pencils to reproduce the fish faithfully with accurate life colors, scale and fin ray-counts. (Take a look at his images and try to imagine drawing that with colored pencils!) His 900+ illustrations have appeared in more than 500 publications, including books, magazines, calendars, advertisements, posters and more. One hundred sixty-one illustrations comprise his book, Fishes of the Central United States, co-authored with Mark Eberle and a compilation of Joe's work on trout and salmon has been published as Trout and Salmon of North America, written by Bob Behnke. Current projects include Fishes of Puget Sound and illustrations of the native trout of Mexico. Joe graduated with an M.S. in biology from Fort Hays State University (Hays, KS) in 1984. After working briefly as a botanist, Joe turned full time to illustration in 1986. Since that time, he has traveled more than 175,000 miles to collect live fishes for his scientific renderings. He currently lives in Kansas City (when he's home) and is a recent inductee into the National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame.
We are proud to carry Joe's open-edition trout prints and identification guide as well as his signed and numbered limited-edition prints.
