A beautiful piece of angling history is captured in outstanding detail in this 1890's photo. This photo is so sharp that individual fish scales are easily seen. Four grayling atop a wicker creel highlight the photo, with a period fly rod displayed in the background. Over 30 years after it was taken Mr. J. Hanselman of Manistee, Ml printed the photo and added a note, which reads,
"July, 1931 this plate was not destroyed. I made this print about a month ago. It is a wonderful picture and is very valuable. They were taken from Bear Creek, Mantistee County about 1896 or 1897. There weren't any other kind of fish in the Creek at that time. Brook and Rainbow are the only kind in the Creek now. J. Hanselman, Manistee, Michigan."
The negative was discovered in a cabin overlooking the North Branch of the Au Sable River near Lovells, Ml. We've carefully reproduced the photo and Mr. Hanselman's note, then mounted it in a handsome 11" x 14" foam backed double mat. You may also buy the print only. Exclusive to The Rogue Angler.
