ABOUT THE AUTHOR Robert Smith caught his first trout on the fly at the age of seven on the River Wharfe and has been a confirmed fly angler ever since. Born into a family of anglers he was imbued with the rich angling heritage of the Yorkshire Dales. He has written for several angling magazines including Trout & Salmon and Fly Fishing & Fly Tying and has fished in many parts of the globe including Australia, New Zealand and the US.

A member of several respected angling clubs, he still revels in the thrill of fishing his favourite North Country Patterns on the same beats fished by T. E. Pritt, Edmonds & Lee and other great fishermen and fly-tyers of the past.
